Therapies Offered at Mission Hills Physical Therapy
- Matrix Energetics - The Science and Art of Transformation- developed by Richard Bartlett, DC, ND. With Matrix Energetics we utilize the unlimited healing potential of the Zero Point Field with reproducible and measurable effects. In Dr. Barlett's book "The Physics of Miracles" the mechanics of this method are discussed in detail.
- Integrative Manual Therapy - Developed by Sharon Weiselfish-Giammatteo, PT, PhD
A system of manual medicine developed during the past 30 years by Sharon Weiselfish-Giammatteo, PT, PhD. IMT addresses both structural and functional aspects of rehabilitation. With IMT the practitioner is able to identify the system of the body and the structures, which are in need of treatment. These systems include biomechanics, muscles, connective tissue, organs, nervous system, blood vessels, lymphatic system and energetic structures. - Craniosacral Therapy - Developed by John Upledger, DO
A gentle hands on technique to help detect and correct imbalances in the craniosacral system. The craniosacral rhythm can be detected through palpation. Imbalances can be corrected through fascial-release techniques. Balancing the craniosacral system can improve headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ dysfunction, chronic fatigue, motor-coordination difficulties, and many other conditions. - Strain-Counterstrain (positional release therapy) - Developed by Lawrence Jones, DO
This is an indirect technique, which places the body in a position of greatest comfort and employs tender points to identify and monitor the restriction. By placing the restricted joint or muscle in a position of maximal relaxation, input from the golgi endings in the area is reduced. The joint or muscle then normalizes in tone, and function improves. - Visceral Manipulation - Developed by Jean-Pierre Barral, DO
A form of manual therapy that focuses on the internal organs, their attachments, and their potential influence on many structural and physiological dysfunctions. Visceral manipulation assesment methods are used to locate the primary problems in the body and determine which restrictions are most in need of treatment. In this way problems can be solved in an effective and effecient manner. Gentle manipulation encourange normal motion and tone of the visceral organs and their attachments. This can not only improve the function of individual organs , but also the function of the entire body. - The Feldenkrais Method - Developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, Ph. D.
Designed to reprogram the neuromuscular pathway in the brain, this method teaches the body alternative ways to move. By giving the body a number of options in movement, the body learns more effective ways to function. Movements are adapted to the comfort and specific needs of the individual. - Functional Mobilization - Developed by Gregory Johnson, P.T.
Integrates soft tissue and joint mobilization with the dynamic principles of PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation). A systematic assessment and treatment approach for each segmental articulation of the pelvic girdle, lumbar spine, hips, knees, and ankles; sternum, rib cage, thoracic spine, shoulder girdle, cervical spine, shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands. - Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) - Developed by Herman Kabat, M.D. and Margaret Knott, P.T.
A dynamic hands on evaluation and treatment approach based on specific patterns of movement and characteristic of neuromuscular control™ - Myofascial Release and Soft Tissue Mobilization
A direct hands on facial release technique originally developed by Ida Rolf, Ph.D., designed to restore symmetry and balance to the body as it relates to gravity. Soft tissue mobilization is an integrated approach for the systematic and biomechanical evaluation and treatment of soft tissue dysfunctions. - Mechanical Link - Developed by Paul Chauffour D.O.
Mechanical Link is a gentle manual therapy that encourages the balance of tensions in the fascial system - that complex web of tissue that interconnects and affects all other body systems. It spreads throughout the body uninterrupted, providing physical stability while also allowing flexibility and mobility. Injury or stress causes patterns of tension in the fascia. Mechanical Link therapy seeks to release this tension in the fascia by stimulating the body's self corrective responses, promoting normal mobility tissue tone and posture.
